A run to end the week

Friday again, time for a little run into the office. 8 hard miles complete, legs feeling a bit smashed but after some food and water they felt fine. Had to carry a bag full of clothing and shoes which didn’t really help. Pleased to have made another Friday on my Ironman journey, big training weekend coming up – please pop back next week to see how the weekend went!

Bike, swim, bike

Just realised that I’m back into brick sessions, without really thinking about it! Today’s fun was riding my bike in a nice gentle fashion arriving at my office without too much sweat or panting! After a solid day of web design it was time to head to the pool and bash a few lengths out. All good. The wife was out enjoying herself and I spent some time on my turbo trainer watching the British Olympic track cyclists kicking some…

Morning glory…

Middle of the week, time for another big session. After getting picked up early doors we headed over to Wrest Park and ran out the back of the estate to Gravenhurst, looping around the country roads and back along the A6. Made a nice change to be running along a different route and in the cool morning air. Legs felt pretty good, feet felt a bit sore but nothing to tell your mother about. Basically, another 11 miles in the…

Running, running, running and a swim

Quick run tonight back from the office to home. Legs felt good (considering yesterday’s 100 miler). All good in the hood! Oh yeah, and I went for swim in the nice new Pool at Flitwick – it was nice.

Big ride with big wind but a step in the right direction…

After a week of feeling wrecked after each training session, the obvious thing to do was a massive ride…my alarm went off at 05:00, I groaned and dragged myself out of bed, rammed some porridge down my throat, had a luke warm cup of coffee and headed out into the sunshine.  When I say sunshsine, whilst the sun had risen and was shining somewhere, it certainly wasn’t in central Bedfordshire. In the absence of the sun being present, Mr Windy…

Keep calm and carry on training

This week has been a bit disappointing…I’ve managed a decent amount of training, but every session has been a struggle and I’ve felt smashed after each one. First up was a turbo session on Monday which is retrospect wasn’t too bad and my gentlemen’s area has recovered from the damage generated on Sunday morning. Turbo’ing is always boring. But once you accept the boredom, pedal and keep the numbers in the right place, then you come to enjoy it. Tuesday…

Wetsuit is ripped…lend me a new one (please)

Dear Internet I have ripped my old wetsuit, it has given me four years hard service and I’ve failed to look after it correctly. If there are any companies out there who would like me to test, review or do anything else in return for a demo suit, please drop me an email (laurence@fnspersonal.wpengine.com) and we’ll do a deal! Website changes – please be patient

Hi readers (all three of you), things might look a bit wiggly on the site for a few days – I’m updating to a new theme and host. I realise this looks a bit poor for a website professional (it’s what I do when I’m not training, some people call it a job!), but we’ve got quite a few other sites to move at the same time and personal stuff never, ever, ever takes priority (unless it’s training!). xx

Bike time with friends

Ironman bike training, on occasions, is lonely. In my experience, if you want to train with other people it normally involves an early start to get some miles in before meeting everyone else for a ‘normal’ ride and so this Sunday, that’s what happened. However, having a good mate training alongside you makes things loads easier. So, this Sunday went something like this… Alarm at 06:00, snooze alarm four times. Get out of bed on the third alarm, only a…

Sea Swimming vs Lake Swimming

Just back from a week away with the family and being near the coast it would have been rude not to try my hand at sea swimming in preparation for Ironman Mallorca in a few weeks. So here’s some thoughts comparing sea swimming and lake swimming. In summary, sea swimming is harder. The water tastes foul and it takes a bit of time to get accustomed to the up and down motion of the sea. But the worst thing is not being…
