Final few weeks of preparation for Ironman Mallorca

The clock is literally counting down on the last few weeks of preparation before we jump on a plane and head to the Balearics for Ironman Mallorca 2016!! Whilst training continues my mind has shifted to thoughts of logistics, insurance, kit, hire cars, airport parking, taxis and all the hundred other small things that need doing.

Training over the past few weeks has consisted of working hard at swimming, keeping my legs turning over on the bike and putting some intensity into my runs.

This weekend just gone we had a family camping trip planned so training was taking a back seat for once. However, the forecast was dismal and the female members of the party called for a postponement. Training was back on. Saturday consisted of a long swim at the lovely Box End Park – about 3500m but who knows as I lost my swim watch in the Isle of White earlier in the year.

On Sunday we were up before the sun and out for a 100miler around Herts, Beds and Bucks. I joined a charity ride route for a while and was told about 15 times that tri-bars were not permitted on the charity ride. Eventually I snapped and pointed out to one (rather rotund bloke) that I wasn’t part of the bloody charity ride and I was on a public highway so it had nothing to bloody do with him. Anyway, 100miles later and slightly under nourished I arrived home to be greet by two excited children. We were going swimming!! Hurrah, I was hoping for a movie afternoon!!

There we are, back to work and Ironman travel logistics!!
