Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

Please fix me

Having crashed back down to earth with a knee injury at the start of the week, things have started to improve. The pain has rescinded and having booked a physio appointment (Kate Barnard – she’s very nice) I arrived feeling a bit like a fraud.  My previous experiences of such professionals involved turning up at their lavishly equipped clinics, being poked, being prodded, told not to run / ride / swim until it got better and then relieve of some cash.  Kate’s approach was rather refreshing and a bit different.

Arriving at her house I was greeted with a big smile and a homely feel to her consultation room (resplendent with running medals). We spent some time talking about my history, hobbies and lifestyle and then she looked at how I stood, how my knee moved when I preformed a variety of tasks – I was mildly suspicious that I was being made to perform these tasks to see how stupid I actually looked.  However, Kate remained light hearted and professional throughout.  We did some knee based stuff, I was told that I wasn’t a basket case and with another session I would probably be fixed. Super stuff, I would highly recommend Kate as a physio, I’m not an easy patient (for example, I don’t like my thighs being touched) but she made me feel as ease, gave me what I felt was good advice and reassured me that I still had some running days ahead of me.
