Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

Back in the road bike groove

Road bikes and snowy / icy roads don’t make for good bedfellows, so my road time has been limited in the past week. My normal routine involves riding to and from work two or three times a week, but this week I’ve been limited to a single off-road ride. However, with the majority of the snow melted and only a few bits of ice remained in the road, the bold decision was taken to ride to work. The worst bit of road was the first twenty yards, about an inch of snow remains and lots of ice, not many cars come down our road so the snow doesn’t get broken down. Once I was onto the main (ish) road all was fine, I went the slightly longer route which features less traffic. Having had a bit of a break from the road bike, I rather enjoyed the lack of resistance from the surface I was riding along. 45 mins late I was tucking into a bowl of porridge and slurping a coffee.

The return leg this evening was much the same but is generally uphill, nothing serious just a gradual incline along the 15 mile route. Again it was a rather pleasant experience, the face nipping cold from last week and earlier this week had gone and I felt like I was blasting along. All in all, a good day at the office! 30 miles, 1.5 hours on the open road.
